Lamington Drive - Report

For the past 16 years or more, Pat Dunk has been organizing two lamington drives at Marsden Road Uniting Church has each year.

The preparation for each effort starts two months in advance, with the distribution of order forms at both Marsden Road and Eastwood Uniting Churches as well as letterbox drop in the surrounding suburbs.

Some people who have "forgotten" to place an order have been known to receive a phone call from Pat, about a week after orders are due, undoing any chance of their sticking to any dietary resolve (but it is in the name of a good cause).

The sponge cake is ordered a week before the lamingtons are made. On the day, at 7.30am, people start a day's work that doesn't finish until after 5pm, when the last of the lamingtons are picked up and the giant cleaning operation is complete.

The group of workers changes through the day, with people coming and going, but normally, 20 to 30 people are involved in the effort.

The record number of lamingtons produced and sold was 580 dozen.
In May 2014, 510 dozen were made raising nearly $2400 for Frontier Services. Well done everybody involved!!

Other groups which have received support through the lamington drive include:

Habitat for Humanity. Seeds of Hope Development
Carlingford Primary School after a fire destroyed much of its resources in the main building.
Father John's Mission in Africa. Cabramatta Community Church
Allawah Children's Home. Uniting World
Mt. Druitt Community Church. World Vision
Hamlin Fistula Relief Uniting Care.

It probably won't surprise you that the cream lamingtons outsell the plain ones 2 to 1 !!
